The Youth Political Rights Advocacy Group which is structured by technical assistance of FEFA held many meetings about the Young Figures book and selected 20 figures including MPs, members of provincial councils, journalists and members of civil society. The criteria which are considered for candidates are age (Based on Youth National Policy youth is called for the person whose age is between 18 to 37 years), educational degree, work experience and social influence. After selection of the candidates a questionnaire was developed to interview the figures. Among 20 figures, we succeeded to interview only 11 of them. Then, the findings of interview were reviewed and analyzed and included in a specific format. The figures who were in Kabul were interviewed face to face but those who were in provinces were interviewed through telephone and email. Two members of Free & Fair Election Forum of Afghanistan are also introduced in this book. The criteria for FEFA’s members were age, education and working commitments.
It is worth mentioning that introduction of young figures is a new proceeding in Afghanistan and will continue in future.
Adolescence is the springtime of human life. Most of elders talk about their early life and advice the youth to know the value of their adolescence. The period of adolescence is different from other periods of life. During adolescence the physical and mental abilities of people are remarkable.
Attempts for progress, initiation and invention are the characteristics of adolescence. Youth are future leaders of the country. Youth are majority of population of Afghanistan therefore their participation in political processes important. Youth are the supporters of democracy and democratic states. Youth’s participation in elections and civic activities strengthen democracy. The role of youth is remarkable in nation building. Youth have active part in mass media and they are consist users of social media. The youth who have joined security forces are actively fighting the insurgents and defend their country. The youth who have joined security forces have paved the ground of a calm life for their people in the cities and villages.
Thousands of other youth are athletes and raise the flag of Afghanistan in international sport arenas. Despite, all these efforts and sacrifices of youth the government hasn’t paid attention to them and hasn’t supported them. Inattention to youth and overlooking their leadership and management abilities led them flee Afghanistan. Thousands of educated and elite youth are fleeing Afghanistan due to inattention to them.
Youth are the intellectual capital of societies. Therefore, their participation is very important in social-political processes. Considering this principle, FEFA held the “Youth and Election” program to increase youth awareness about democratic-political processes. Totally, 977 youth took part in these programs to increase their awareness on election. About 542 persons from schools, 440 persons from districts and 100 university students have benefited from these programs. Beside, these programs, FEFA published a book titled “Young Figures” to support and appreciate the active youth. Paying attention to good and goodness is a proper culture. Appreciating the good ones who have achievements indicate our attention to their performance and will encourage them to do more.
